Imam quotes Obama adding radical terrorism “is not based on religion. It has nothing to do with Islam.”
Dateline February 27, 2015 – Portland Oregon: A week ago yesterday, Thursday February 19, 2015, I had the opportunity to sit in on a session of what bills itself as a more moderate form of Islam at a talk at Portland State University. An admittedly affable Imam Azhar Haneef gave a talk which addressed Islamic Terrorism, although he never called it that. In fact, we were told: “religion has nothing to do with it.”
The event is being put on nationwide by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This particular session was in the Portland State University Multicultural Center. Some of what was said seemed naive and dangerously misguided to me. These are some highlights. You be the judge.
Quoting Obama he said: “When it comes to America and Islam there is only *us* because millions of us Americans, Muslims, are part of the fabric of our country.”
“And lest we get on our high horses and think that it is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people did terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow, all too often was justified in the name of Jesus Christ.”
He added: “You can’t be singing to Christ on Sunday and doing all these barbaric things to human beings.”
